The Velaro Story

Velaro started in Miami with a simple frustration. I'm Marcos, and every time I looked for lighting that made a room feel finished, like a travertine sconce, a textured pendant or a clean linear light over the island, the pieces I liked were priced like showroom furniture.

The more I looked, the clearer it got. A big part of the price on designer-looking lighting isn't the light. It's the showroom, the brand name and the markup stacked on top. The designs I loved were out there for far less, but buried in listings with vague specs, weeks-long shipping and return policies written to make you give up.

To put a number on it: travertine wall sconces at specialist and designer lighting stores often run $200 to $600. Ours starts at $99.99.

So I started Velaro to do the sorting for you. I compare designs, materials and suppliers one by one, and I only list a fixture I'd want on my own walls.

How a fixture makes it into the shop

• Honest materials. We say travertine only when it's travertine. Stone-look and brass-tone finishes are labeled exactly that way.
• Real specs. Size, bulb type, voltage and installation are on every product page.
• A supplier we can stand behind. We check each supplier's track record before a product goes live.
• Delivery that makes sense. Orders ship in 1–3 business days and arrive in 7–14 business days in the US.

What you won't find here

• Countdown timers or made-up “was” prices.
• Restocking fees. Returns are free for 30 days, with a prepaid label.
• Reviews we didn't earn.
